Europeans support decentralised solar energy

Solar grassroots campaign attracts more than half a million people

BRUSSELS, 22 May 2013– The 6th edition of the European Solar Days has shown massive public support across Europe for solar energy. More than half a million European citizens attended the 6,000 local events in 20 countries from 1 to 19 May, keen to learn more about the decentralised energy source. This remarkable level of participation reflects Europeans’ positive view of solar energy: according to a Eurobarometer survey 94% of Europeans are in favour of this renewable energy technology, more than any other energy source.

On 1 May, Europe’s largest solar energy grassroots movement gets in full swing once again

Brussels, 16 April 2013 – The European Solar Days, Europe’s largest solar energy grassroots movement, is growing fast throughout Europe with events expected to attract more than a half-million participants. Between Wednesday 1 May and Sunday 19 May 2013, solar energy supporters – from citizens to industry stakeholders to politicians and policymakers – will gather for celebrations, educational activities, demonstrations and other events.

Europeans demand political focus on decentralised solar energy

94% of Europeans favour using solar, according to Eurobarometer

Brussels, 11 May 2012– Leaders of the solar energy community representing citizens across Europe called on Brussels politicians to increase their support for solar energy. In video messages from France, Italy and Portugal, three of the 20 European countries participating in the European Solar Days campaign, national representatives urged policy makers to stimulate further the growth of solar energy across Europe and give citizens more choice over the energy they use. According to a recent Eurobarometer survey 94% of Europeans favour using solar energy, more than for any other energy source.
